Do you need to find affordable Hawaii travel?
Unless you’re one of the rich and famous you’ll appreciate affordable Hawaii travel. We’re not rich and we’ve been to Hawaii a number of times for at least two weeks per visit. Budget Hawaii travel can be fun!
Here are some things to consider when searching for Hawaii travel specials.
Option #1: Cheap Hawaiian vacation packages
Pros: Bargain Hawaii trips.
Cons: Read the fine print. Often you are restricted to flying on certain days, staying for a set length of time, and staying in a particular hotel. You can definitely find a cheap Hawaii travel package this way but you lose your flexibility—no two week stays or splitting your stay between islands.
You can visit your travel agent, scan the travel section of your newspaper, or sign up for email notifications from the airlines that fly out of the airport in your area.
Option #2: Last minute Hawaii travel deals
Pros: Affordable Hawaii Vacation:
Cons: You must have a very flexible schedule and ready to leave with very short notice. When I retire, this will be the option for me! Again, read the fine print to make sure you know what you’re paying for.
I’ve seen ads in the newspaper and email notifications for last minute Hawaii travel bargains. Unfortunately, my work schedule never allowed me to take advantage of these deals—at least not yet!
Option #3: DIY (Do it yourself)
Pros: Total control! You can splurge on some things and scrimp on others. It's up to you to design your dream Hawaii vacation.
Cons: Hard work! For some of us this is really fun work. For me, part of the vacation experience is reading, dreaming, and creating my very own Hawaii vacation deal. Of course I do enjoy a good challenge!
I’ve tried a variety of combinations in search of the ultimate cheap Hawaii vacation. One time I got an interesting airfare and hotel package through an airline travel agent. We got a flight to Maui with 7 nights in a condo there, a flight from Maui to the Big Island with the first two nights in a hotel, five nights “on our own”, and a flight from the Big Island back to St. Louis. I booked a Bed & Breakfast at the Volcano by calling directly because the hotel choices in these packages can be quite limited.
I’ve found affordable Hawaii travel by booking flights “on sale” through the airlines and then used a travel agent to book hotel and car rental package. I’ve also done everything ala carte by myself. This is clearly the most labor intensive.
The trick is to allow plenty of time to investigate. Travelocity, Expedia, Tripadvisor, as well as travel agents, newspapers, and e-newsletters are all great sources for savings.
Option #4: Web Resources for discount Hawaii travel
Pros: You’re already online, just click and investigate.
Cons: I don’t have personal experience planning affordable Hawaii travel using these tools. At least not yet!
As I find interesting tools, I’ll add the links here.
